SUMMARY:
On the day of his fiftieth wedding anniversary, Ivan remembers all the loves of his youth and his marital infidelity. When his wife admits that she had cheated on him once, Ivan starts to doubt whether their second son is really his child. His wife's confession manages to convince him. Although lonely, because their sons live abroad, the couple are able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary more of less with peace of mind.

SUMMARY:
Stjepan, a married man, and Maria, a young woman, are fighting for the love of the same man, Marko. Although he loves Stjepan, he gives up his love because he wants a man who will be only his, which Stjepan cannot be. Disappointed with life, Marko tries to commit suicide. While in hospital - a Purgatory of sorts - Marko becomes aware of his own self and decides to start a new life - without Stjepan and also without Maria, whom he regards only as a friend.

 

BIOGRAPHY:

Ivan Goleš was born in Šibenik in 1932 where he completed his schooling. He earned a degree in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb. He worked as a teacher and has been retired since 1992. He has been writing for some twenty years. His children's stories have been published in Smib, Radost, Zvrk, Tintilinić, Modra Lasta and Latica and in reading-books for primary school children, as well as having been read on Radio Zagreb in the Bedtime Stories broadcasts. His radio-play for children, Letter to Santa Claus, has been performed on Radio Zagreb, while his radio-play When the Sun Goes Down and the Moon Comes Up and The Great Dreamer has been broadcast on Radio Skopje, Macedonia. His children's story The Unusual Telescope won 2nd prize in the 1976 Radio Zagreb competition. His children's novel Bombs from the High-rise was published in Marulić magazine. The Descent of Orpheus, a radio-play for adults, was published in Marulić, and his radio-play Death Refuses to Go on Holiday in the magazine Forum and produced on Radio Zagreb. The grotesque The Dictator Has a Toothache was performed by an ammeter group in Slovenia in 1990. Goleš is a member of Matrix Croatica in Zaprešić where he is a contributor to the Zaprešić Annual and the satirical magazine Zgubidan. He also write Haiku poems.
