  WORLD THEATRE DAY - 27th March 2010

International Message

Author: Dame Judi Dench

World Theatre Day is an opportunity to celebrate Theatre in all its myriad forms. Theatre is a source of entertainment and inspiration and has the ability to unify the many diverse cultures and peoples that exist throughout the world. But theatre is more than that and also provides opportunities to educate and inform.

Theatre comes about through team work. Actors are the people who are seen, but there is an amazing set of people who are not seen. They are equally as important as the actors and their differing and specialist skills make it possible for a production to take place. They too must share in any triumphs and successes that may hopefully occur.

March 27 is always the official World Theatre Day. In many ways every day should be considered a theatre day, as we have a responsibility to continue the tradition to entertain, to educate and to enlighten our audiences, without whom we couldn’t exist.

International Dance Day: 29 April 2009

Event at UNESCO, 30 April 2009, noon, with Akram Khan

International Dance Day Message 2009
Akram Kahn

This very special day, International Dance Day, is dedicated to the one language that everybody in this world can speak, the inherent language of our bodies and our souls, of our ancestors and of our children.

This day is dedicated to every god, guru and grandparent that ever taught and inspired us.

To every song and impulse and moment that's ever moved us to move.

It is dedicated to the little child that wishes it could move like its star. And to the mother who says, 'you already can'.

This day is dedicated to every body of every creed, colour and culture that carries the traditions of its past into stories of the present and dreams of the future.

This day is dedicated to Dance, to its myriad dialects and its immense power to express, transform, unite and delight.

  ABOUT INTERNATIONAL DRAMA COLONY

AIMS OF THE COLONY
The International Drama Colony is considered among one of the most attractive programmes of the Croatian Centre ITI. It was launched in 1999 with the ambition of exploring and promoting foreign and domestic texts through staged readings.
The Croatian team presents young and unknown playwrights, offering them an opportunity for staging their texts with professional actors and directors, which should enable possible further official productions of their plays.
The Colony’s foreign guests present the texts of their country’s recent plays. The staged readings are all the more intriguing and attractive being set in the becoming milieu and environment of the medieval Istrian town of Motovun. The “shows” are performed without any settings or costumes, while the actors read from the scripts.

RECIPROCITY The basis of such cooperation of Croatia with other countries is that of reciprocity. Therefore, thanks to this Colony, our contemporary playwrights and their works have already been presented in the USA and Greece (Miro Gavran), in the Czech Republic (Lada Kaštelan), in India and Chile (Filip Šovagović), Slovakia (Tena Štivičić), and in Mexico (Elvis Bošnjak).
The Colony also operates as an essentially valuable and constructive programme through which the Croatian Centre ITI materializes its agenda in cooperation with other national ITI centres as well as with the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Arts.
The accomplished interaction between Croatian and foreign playwrights and directors in the Colony helps build bridges of theatrical cooperation and partnership. By producing plays as works in progress, young playwrights gain experience in transforming literary texts or dramas into theatre.
